Self Referral

Most referrals to other specialists will require you seeing or speaking with a GP. However, there are a number of local services, listed below, that you are able to make self referrals to.

Podiatry is a medical speciality which diagnosis and treats foot related problems of patient with an assessed risk; providing education and support for self management in order to promote foot health.

Mindspace

Mindspace is a mental health charity that has been based in Perth for over 40 years. We provide services such as counselling, peer support and group courses that help you to understand and manage your mental health. All our services are completely free and open to anyone who feels they need support with their daily well-being.

Tayside Maternity Services

We provide care during pregnancy, labour birth and postnatally for over 4,500 women and pregnant people and their babies each year in our maternity units at Arbroath, Dundee and Perth.

The Neuk Mental Health Crisis and Su1cide Prevention Centre

Day to day this service is responding to crisis presentations made to the service from individuals aged 16+. We support people in transition points in their lives where there are acute and chronic periods of pressure. Our intervention and prevention support the learning of coping mechanisms. We accept referrals from individuals directly, via their GP and from Police Scotland.

One to One Counselling – Perth

Counselling is a safe place to come in and talk to someone about your alcohol use and possibly any underlying issues that may be a reason for drinking. The sessions give you the opportunity to talk to a trained practitioner and explore various aspects of life and feelings. Counselling provides a place to talk about them freely and confidentially in a more structured environment that would not be possible to do with friends or family.

If you need advice, information or guidance, Perth Citizens Advice Bureau is here for you. Phone by calling us on freephone between 10am and 3pm Monday to Friday .Our Chatbot is available 24/7. The Scottish Government has negotiated access to Solihull Online. These are courses which help nurture a a caring and supportive relationship by carers and help understanding of the stages of a child's development from pregnancy through to 19 years through interactive activities. Courses available are; Understanding pregnancy, labour, birth and your baby, understanding your baby, understanding your child. understanding your teenager's brain. Forensic Medical Services (Victims of Sexual Offences) (Scotland) Act 2021

This new Act establishes a legal framework for consistent access to “self-referral” where a victim (over 16 years of age) can access healthcare and request a Forensic Medical Examination (FME) without first having to make a report to the police. In addition, and as part of a person centred approach, individuals will be able to request the sex of their examiner involved in their care.

Arranging or changing your DRS (Diabetic retinopathy screening) appointment

Most health boards have a diabetic retinopathy screening (DRS) service that can arrange appointments and answer any questions or problems you might have.When you receive your DRS invitation letter you might need to contact your local service to arrange a time to have the test. You can also ask for a new appointment if you fail to, or can no longer, attend your appointment.
